What to do when someone is having a seizure
During a Seizure:
- 1.Stay calm and stay with the person
- 2.Keep them safe - move objects away that could cause injury
- 3.Turn them on their side if possible to keep airway clear
- 4.Place something soft under their head
- 5.Time the seizure - this information is important for medical professionals
DO NOT:
- ✗Hold the person down or try to stop their movements
- ✗Put anything in their mouth
- ✗Give them food, water, or medication until fully alert
Call Emergency Services (911) if:
- •The seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes
- •Another seizure begins before the person regains consciousness
- •The person is injured, pregnant, or has diabetes
- •This is the person's first seizure
- •The person does not return to their usual state
